Microsoft has released a brand new Paint app for Windows 11 testers in the Dev channel, just in front of the operating system's official launch next week.

The redesign Paint app is actually an interface update of the rather familiar app, so if you used it before, you should definitely feel like home when running the Windows 11 version too.

There's a new redesigned toolbar, rounded corners, or even a dark mode (though this one isn't available at this time), all in an effort to bring the Paint app in line with the visual refresh that went reside in Windows 11 as well.

"The most prominent change to Paint may be the newly simplified toolbar with updated icon designs, a rounded color scheme, along with a new set of drop-down menus for tools such as brushes, stroke size, and flip/rotate controls," Microsoft explains.

"Beyond updated icons and dropdown menus, we've included a new text tool that you should try. To access the tool, click the "A" icon present in the toolbar."

More features on the way

Microsoft says case the start of the Paint refresh, as the company intends to bring many more features to the app within the coming updates. Of course, there's no ETA available right now, and it'll be interesting to ascertain if the company has lots of time to bring the brand new Paint to any or all Windows 11 users before the production launch starts on October 5.

"Look out for future updates to the Paint app where we intend to address your feedback with improvements including dark theme, a centered canvas, and updated dialogs that have not yet been updated with the app's new design," the firm says.

Microsoft just released a brand new Windows 11 build for users signed up for the Beta channel of the Windows Insider program, and unsurprisingly, the main focus is mostly on polishing the experience with the operating system.

This will make total sense given Windows 11 is just around the corner, with Microsoft also confirming that build 22000.194 includes a lot of modern updates for the apps coming pre-loaded using the OS.

"We are beginning to rollout updates for several apps that come included included in Windows 11 to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. Today's rollout includes the following app updates: Snipping Tool, Calculator, and Clock with Focus Sessions! Check for updates within the Store and check out these apps out and tell us what you believe!" Microsoft said within the release notes of today's build.

Plenty of fixes

Other than that, the new build is about fixes and increasing the performance of Windows 11, with Microsoft explaining within the changelog that glitches causing BSODs during modern standby are also addressed.

Microsoft has additionally confirmed that beta users could still struggle with more Taskbar and Start menu problems, as similar glitches have also been encountered in the last builds.

It appears the whole thing might be caused by the latest cumulative updates, so Microsoft says you need to just re-install the newest updates.

"We're investigating reports from Insiders within the Beta Channel where after upgrading to Windows 11, they aren't seeing the new Taskbar and the Start menu doesn't work. The updated Korean IME has created to a subset of Insiders within the Dev Channel first, to assist us quickly identify issues that may impact performance and reliability. With time, it'll unveil to everybody in the Dev Channel," it says.
